Dog Days of Summer week at Meadowood
Hello from Meadowood! This week was a very busy week. Our theme was Dog Days of Summer with some kind of theme every day. Monday morning the residents came up with categories for the Dog Show and made prize bags for each category. Five different categories included best looking, smallest, largest, best behaved, and sweetest. The residents then put together treat bags for every dog contestant. Monday afternoon for the Dog Show we had ten contestants. Dogs of all sizes and breeds sure put a smile on everyone's face. Our nurse Nancy's dog Roxy got the grand prize for best looking. She was a very cute little Pomeranian with a pink dress and matching hair bow.
Tuesday morning we took large marshmallows and used them for a snowball fight. Each resident had a fresh marshmallow to eat first so they weren't tempted. Chicken Soup for the Golden Soul was read right before lunch. Bingo Tuesday afternoon was very exciting. With many winners, Louis Amos and Necia Love both went home with the most moolah.
Wednesday morning residents gathered in the dining room for our very special guests - Wee Care Day Care. The children sang songs about dogs for our theme. They did an excellent job! Wednesday afternoon we celebrated our monthly birthday party. We went over everyone's birthday in July, sang, and had cake with a choice of vanilla or chocolate chip ice cream.
Thursday the residents listened to the area news in the morning and in the afternoon they baked several different cakes and brownies for the bake sale. Friday everyone pitched in and helped with the lemonade stand, snow cones and bake sale. And then in honor National Bag Pipe Day, Michael Cunningham played for all the residents. We had three wonderful little helpers Friday. Madelyn, India, and Paris served and took the money for us at our stand.
Saturday residents got together and watched the summer Olympics. We talked about what events we liked and which ones are the most popular. Saturday afternoon the Royal Neighbors of America came and played bingo with our residents. Sherry Wood was the biggest winner. After bingo the Royal Neighbors of America passed out cantaloupe, watermelon, and soda pop. Tip Hospice came for pet therapy. They went room to room with their bloodhound. Everyone seemed to enjoy this.
Sunday, we started out with Bible Trivia. Mary Hinman got the most questions right. Ridge Baptist Church came Sunday afternoon. After singing many hymns, the pastor talked about being materialistic. Also, we talked about if someone doesn't have a smile, then we can give them one of ours. We prayed for the sick.
After a very busy week, the activity department hopes everyone enjoyed themselves. We would like to thank everybody who participated in our events. We would like to thank those who donated items for our bake sale and those who bought from our bake sale. We would like to thank those who donated their time to make our residents happy. Appreciation can never be expressed enough.
